Called to order 11:02 a.m. by Board Vice President Jana Metge, in the absence of Board President Peter Albrecht. We thank Jana for organizing the meeting agenda.
Jana Metge welcomes members, introduces the board members and staff on stage.
Sarah Cagley, as Chair of the Finance Committee, says our annual budget over the 40 years of the organization’s history, has gone from $14K to nearly a half million. She speaks to our new financial reporting system currently being put in place by Floyd Wellons of BKR Accounting, and our conversion to QuikBooksOnline.
Ken Bloch, as Chair of the Executive Director Search Committee, describes our search for a new Executive Director upon Jed’s retirement at the end of the year: A six- member board search committee reviewed resumes and conducted interviews in December. He introduces our new Executive Director, Arne Brogger.
Arne Brogger says his 30 days of experience in his new position have been very positive. He praises the teamwork evident at the WBW event and Bea’s hard work as Administrative Assistant. He says the membership is crucially important to the organization, and he welcomes input from members at any time.
Greg Landkamer, Treasurer, states that our organizational assets and liabilities are in balance and that last year’s deficit has now been made up but that we need to continue to be diligent in seeking funding for the continued success of our programs.
Ann Iijima says she wants to “put the ‘fun’ in fundraising.” She says the JedFest fundraising event in January grossed over $6K, thanks to member support, volunteer donations, and the 13 member bands who donated their performances.
Marilyn Bergum says “Membership is the life blood” of the organization and “Volunteers are the heart.” She asks everyone to invite more people into the organization and to become part of the action.
Doug Lohman thanks JoAnn Makela, who was the editor of our Minnesota Bluegrass magazine for the last three years. As Interim Editor, Doug is looking for writers. He invites members to submit their stories of how they became interested in our kind of music. He asks everyone under the age of 50 in the room to raise their hand: ONE hand! He points out we need to cultivate younger active members.
Katryn Conlin says she is currently contracted for one hour per month of website maintenance. She invites members to send any website suggestions to Arne to forward to her.
Bea Flaming says T-shirt sales was her first task in the organization years ago and she is again managing this area – with a big sale this weekend – while asking for more volunteers to join the merchandise team for the next festivals.
Jana opens the floor for questions:
Mary thanks everyone for coming, invites members to speak to board members with questions and suggestions.
Meeting concluded at 11:37am.
