PRE-FESTIVAL INSTRUCTIONAL CAMPS
2018 Bluegrass Instructional Camp
Attention all bass players! 2018 is YOUR YEAR for Bluegrass Instructional Camp (also known as Jam Camp) as our host instructors will be the Edgar Loudermilk Band along with fiddle master Chuck Millar. The festival staff pulled a major coup getting this talented group to come and teach the camp - the only remaining challenge was to lure Chuck away - but due to creative scheduling and many texts and phone calls, we are excited to announce this line up. The members of ELB are all top-shelf, A team, dues paying, international level musicians. You’ve heard them on Sirius XM, KBEM (thanks Phil!) and probably have the harmony parts to “Town of Shady Green” all worked up. Many readers will recall Jeff Autry’s face melting guitar work when he came to Harvest Jam with the John Cowan Band and with Zack, his son, om mandolin and Curtis “Bum” Bumgarner on banjo, this all-star lineup deserved only the best fiddle addition MBOTMA could offer: enter Chuck Millar.
Camp Begins: Tuesday, August 7 at 7:00 p.m.
Cost: $125 until July 1. $150: July 2 – August 1
What to Expect: Classes and breakout sessions covering work in instrument groups (all divided into the 5 standard bluegrass instruments: guitar, banjo, bass, fiddle and mandolin), ensembles, seminars on lead and harmony singing, music theory, song arrangement, jam etiquette, and more. The camp will close out with all students performing their recitals on the Main stage on Thursday evening.
