The Minnesota Homegrown kickoff is a three-day outdoor music and camping festival that features the music of more than twenty regional groups performing bluegrass, old-time stringband, and related forms of acoustic music. In addition to the main stage performances there will be a Saturday night dance featuring Honky Tonk John, plus workshops, organized jam sessions, and music and craft vendors. One of the main attractions for the hundreds of amateur musicians who attend the festival are the impromptu jam sessions that take place throughout the campground throughout the day and night. You can come for the day or camp for the weekend. And it’s a great family event as kids are admitted free and there are special rates for teenagers.
Main stage showtimes are 5:00 PM to 11:00 PM Friday, 11:00 AM to 11:00 PM Saturday, and 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM Sunday. Groups scheduled include Blue Hazard, Middle Spunk Creek Boys, Morgans Run, Blue Wolf, Eelpout Stringers, High 48s, DriveTime, Temporary Stringband, Due North, Curtis & Loretta, Bob & Lynn Dixon, Free Range Pickin’, Blue Yodel #9, Tangled Roots, The Whistlepigs, Ivory Bridge, The Platte Valley Boys, Ring of Kerry, Blessings Gospel Trio, Seldom Herd, O’Neill Family Band, Mill City Grinders, Hello Stranger, and Switched At Birth.
Weekend tickets that include admission for all three days plus unimproved camping for Friday and Saturday nights are available for $40 in advance or $45 at the gate. Single day admission without camping is available at the gate for $15 on Friday, $20 Saturday, and $15 Sunday. Admission for teens is only $5 for any or all days and children age 12 and under are free. For more information or to order tickets call 800-635-3037 or visit www.MinnesotaBluegrass.org.
The Minnesota Homegrown Kickoff is presented by the Minnesota Bluegrass & Old-Time Music Association (MBOTMA), a 501c3 non-profit organization, and made possible in part by a grant provided by the Minnesota State Arts Board, through an appropriation by the Minnesota State Legislature and a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts.
