WELCOME

Welcome to the official web site of the Minnesota Bluegrass & Old-Time Music Association (MBOTMA), a 501c3 nonprofit, volunteer-based organization serving Minnesota and the Midwest. Our mission is to preserve and promote bluegrass and old-time string band music in Minnesota.

Our activities include four annual festivals, plus numerous concerts, dances, jam sessions, workshops, and educational programs. Our events and programs keep people who love to play and listen to traditional acoustic music busy all year around throughout the state of Minnesota. There will be another Minnesota Bluegrass Community Concert double header with two fine Minnesota groups on Saturday February 13, 2016, starting at 7:00 PM in Moose Lake MN. The High 48s and The Eelpout Stringers will team up for an evening concert at Holy Angels Catholic Church (60 Hartman Dr).  Tickets are $12 in advance, $15 day of show, $5 for teens, and free for kids age 12 and under. Tickets are on sale now!

Friday-Sunday, March 4-6, 2016, Minneapolis MN: The Winter Bluegrass Weekend: A Festival of Bluegrass & Old-Time Music & Dance, Crowne Plaza Minneapolis West Hotel in Plymouth (3131 Campus Dr, I-494 & Hwy 55). Some fifty groups will be performing bluegrass, old-time stringband, and related forms of acoustic music on several stages, including Danny Paisley & The Southern Grass for the Saturday Night Headline Concert and The Sunny Mountain Serenaders in the Dance Hall. Friday-Sunday April 15-17 2016, Duluth MN: Cabin Fever Festival, New Location! Radisson Harborview Hotel (505 W Superior St). A weekend long cabin fever reliever event including stage shows, draw bands, open stage, workshops, and jam sessions around the clock. Weekend tickets are $29 in advance ($26 for members). Friday through Sunday, June 3-5, 2016, Richmond MN: The Minnesota Homegrown Kickoff

An outdoor festival held every year the weekend after Memorial Day at El Rancho Manana near Richmond, MN, featuring leading regional bluegrass, old-time and related acoustic MBOTMA member bands, plus workshops, jam with the bands, the gathering place, jam sessions, and more.


Thursday through Sunday, August 11-14, 2016: Minnesota Bluegrass & Old-Time Music Festival

Held annually at El Rancho Manana the second weekend in August, this festival features four days and nights of music on multple stages, great national and regional bands, workshops and showcases. Nominated as IBMA Event of the Year in 2005, 2007, 2009 and 2014!

Saturday January 23, 2016,  MBOTMA’s 2016 Fundraiser 12to12 Party, Kraus Hartig VFW Post (8100 Pleasant View Dr). a benefit for the Minnesota Bluegrass & Old-Time Music Association called JedFest! in honor of Jed Malischke's 29 years of service to MBOTMA.


Harvest Jam Acoustic Music Experience  - Friday through Sunday, November 20-22, 2015 at the Marriott Minneapolis West Hotel (9960 Wayzata Blvd) in St Louis Park.


The Minnesota Bluegrass Duet Championships took place at the Minnesota State Fair on Friday and Saturday of Labor Day weekend (Sep 4 & 5). Friday was the Vocal Duet Championships, and Saturday's was the Instrumental Duet Championships.

Wow! What a great year for the Minnesota Bluegrass & Old-Time Music Festival on August 6-9 at El Rancho Manana near Richmond. This was one of those things for your “great-nearby-places-to-go-and-things-to-do list,” There were over 30 hours of concerts on the Main Stage by national and regional bands, including a Hot Rize Reunion, the IBMA Vocal Group and Entertainers of the Year Balsam RangeThe Jump Steady BoysThe Bucking MulesRed MollyEddie & Martha Adcock with Tom GrayThe Wild Goose Chase Cloggers and many more.

Hot News! The 2014 Minnesota Bluegrass & Old-Time Music Festival  was nominated (for the fifth time!) as Event Of The Year by the International Bluegrass Music Association in Nashville.
