Board of Directors - Roles and Expectations

Thank you for your interest in serving on the MBOTMA Board of Directors. This board is a Working Board which means that all members serve on Board Committees, attend all meetings, festivals, and a yearly retreat, and are actively involved in running the organization.

New board members are expected to attend a board member training in the first few months after taking office and will participate in an orientation.

Elections Timeline

Nominations Open: August 1- September 15        NOMINATIONS LINK 

Elections: October 15 - November 30

Board Members take office: first Tuesday of January

President – Vice President

Requirements

  • Board Leadership experience, ideally with non-profits
  • Effective written and verbal communicator
  • Able to commit to monthly board meetings as well as additional meetings as necessary
  • Recent experience as a MBOTMA Board member
  • Experience as a MBOTMA committee member or Key Volunteer
  • Able to act as an ambassador for the organization
  • Holds vision for the future of the organization
  • Diplomacy
  • Willingness to serve on board committees as necessary
  • Team player

Secretary

Requirements

    • Board experience, ideally with a non-profit
    • Proficient with technology especially GSuite products
    • Detail oriented
    • Organized
    • Willingness to serve on board committees as necessary
    • Holds vision for the future of the organization
    • Team player

Treasurer

Requirements

    • Board experience, ideally with a non-profit
    • Extensive accounting and bookkeeping experience
    • Budgeting experience in forecasting and tracking
    • Staff management skills
    • Analytical
    • Good communication skills
    • Willingness to serve on board committees as necessary
    • Team player
    • Holds vision for the future of the organization

Member at Large

Requirements

    • Able to attend monthly meetings
    • Willingness to serve on board committees as necessary
    • Able to act as an ambassador for the organization
    • Holds vision for the future of the organization
    • Team player

Ideal Characteristics: Background in grant management, marketing, public relations, or legal

Board Member Expectations

    • Prepare for and attend monthly meetings
    • Attend the yearly retreat and festivals
    • Serve on at least one board committee – either standing or ad hoc
    • Attend Board Member training (paid by MBOTMA)
    • Participate in the board orientation materials
    • Advocate for the organization
