I enjoy teaching the 5-string banjo in a variety of styles from bluegrass to rock and roll, from beginner to advanced students. I play with the band The High 48s and have taught banjo workshops at the MBOTMA August Festival, Blue Ox Music Festival, International Music Camp, Missouri River Bluegrass Festival and more. I've been teaching private lessons for over a decade and love to teach and help students unlock their creative potential.

I've been teaching professionally since 1970, at Carleton College since 2007, am a member of the O'Gorman High School Hall of Fame for achievements in the Arts, and the Minnesota Rock and Country Hall of Fame, as well as Favorite Songwriter *and* Favorite Multi-instrumentalist of MBOTMA. I play/teach bluegrass, folk, swing, gypsy jazz and blues/rockabilly. Guitar (6 and tenor), mandolin, banjo (bluegrass, clawhammer, tenor), fiddle, ukulele, mandola, mando-cello, bass and beginning accordion.

I am a long-time participant in the Twin Cities old-time community. I have been playing clawhammer banjo for a couple decades. I am particularly interested in driving old-time string band music. I have had all levels of students from 8 years old to 80. I like getting beginners started on the right foot and improving repertoire of intermediate students.

My name is Tom Draughon. I have been teaching stringed instruments at Northland College, Ashland, WI since 1993. I founded and facilitate the Bluegrass Camp for Kids at Lake Superior Big Top Chautauqua, and I am a cast member in House Shows there. I have been teaching people to play musical instruments since I was in high school in the 1970s. I started playing bluegrass in about 1972. My current bluegrass band is TrueGrass Trio.
