I've been teaching professionally since 1970, at Carleton College since 2007, am a member of the O'Gorman High School Hall of Fame for achievements in the Arts, and the Minnesota Rock and Country Hall of Fame, as well as Favorite Songwriter *and* Favorite Multi-instrumentalist of MBOTMA. I play/teach bluegrass, folk, swing, gypsy jazz and blues/rockabilly. Guitar (6 and tenor), mandolin, banjo (bluegrass, clawhammer, tenor), fiddle, ukulele, mandola, mando-cello, bass and beginning accordion.
I am a long-time participant in the Twin Cities old-time community. I have been playing clawhammer banjo for a couple decades. I am particularly interested in driving old-time string band music. I have had all levels of students from 8 years old to 80. I like getting beginners started on the right foot and improving repertoire of intermediate students.
I have been playing a variety of fiddle styles for over 20 years and have been teaching both at camps and festivals as well as private lessons for over ten years. Whether you just got a fiddle and want to start from scratch or have been playing for some years and want to get to the next level, I can help. I can teach old time, bluegrass and Cajun styles as well as work on fundamental technique and basic music theory.

I have been teaching people to play musical instruments since I was in high school in the 1970s. I started playing bluegrass in about 1972. My current bluegrass band is TrueGrass Trio.
